Major Update session forthcoming
We are planning a major update session for all our servers to
start this weekend or early next week. This will include the following
list of changes to ALL of our servers:
1) PHP 4 will be removed, this was EOL in Jan of last year and
is no longer updated, at this point it is a security risk just to have
it on the server.
2) MySQL will be upgraded to MySQL 5 on all servers
3) Correct timezones will be set for all servers & time will
be checked to be accurate on a regular basis (system clocks aren't
entirely accurate) (this may cause a "hole" in some of your logs)
4) RVSiteBuilder updated to its latest version
5) Fantastico updated to its latest version
6) PHP 5 upgraded to its latest (stable) version
7) Apache upgraded to its latest (stable) version
8) New Kernels for all boxes (this will require a reboot of the
server)
Please NOTE: ALL transfers will be DISABLED during
this update session (because we're upgrading mysql) once the session
is complete they will be enabled again.
And to answer the initial barrage of questions about PHP4:
No, this is not something we will put off.
No, this is not something you can opt out of.
No, you can not have "a few more weeks" on this.
Sorry, but we've supported an EOL product for a year, we have to
draw the line in the sand somewhere.
Node35 Migration
We will be migrating node35 from the Hong Kong data center to Softlayer's Dallas Facility due to the lack of response from the data center on the 3 hour outage.
cPanel Update
All nodes will be updated with the latest version of cPanel.
cPanel Version 11.24.4-RELEASE
cPanel Build 32486
During the update, accounts may become inaccessible for a period of time (1-2 hours).
SERVER UPGRADES
We are almost finished the server upgrades, all nodes will use the new specifications within 1 week.
NOTE: All nodes will now use 64bit processors.
Quad Core Xeon
4GB RAM
All Hard Drives with RAID 1
CentOS 5.x
HoberSoft
